Trapped on Calypso's island, Odysseus wants to escape and go home to Ithaca after being trapped there for seven years. Athena sees this and begs his father, Zeus, to let Odysseus go. He agrees and tells Hermes to order Calypso to release him. She agrees to let him go but not before tempting him one last time. She offers immortality. Odysseus turns this request down and leaves the island with a raft. Poseidon destroys this raft with a storm he created. He ends up on the island of Scheria. There, he falls into a deep sleep in a pile of leaves.
