Barely escaping Scylla and Charybdis, Odysseus and his men end up in Thrinacia. Odysseus and his men were tired but he was warned by Circe and Tiresias not to go to that island.
He warily agrees but warns the crew not to touch the cattle on the land. The harsh wind makes their journey temporarily stopped and they stay there more. After starvation for a month, the crew slaughters Helios's cattle for food. As punishment, when they finally leave, Helios pleads to Zeus to send a thunderbolt at their ship, killing all the men except Odysseus. Odysseus is left to survive but his punishment was to stay at Calypso's island for a delay of seven years. |
